Trust and Obey

I've been giving a lot of thought to the words Trust and Obey lately.  Two such easy words to say; they roll right off the tongue with no problem, don't they?  Yet, the meaning of these words is pretty clear.  In order to trust, you must rely on or have confidence in something or someone, even right down to hope in them.  And we all pretty much obey commands every day just by driving down the road.
Trust:  1) reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety of a person or thing; confidence  2) confident expectation of something; hope
Obey:  to comply with or follow the commands, restrictions, wishes, or instructions of:

The trust and obey I've been thinking of though goes a little deeper than maybe trusting your friend or spouse and making sure you don't disobey road regulations.  I been thinking about trust and obey as it pertains to my faith and my prayer life.  As the refrain from the song Trust and Obey says "Trust and Obey, for there's no other way To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey," we basically can't be happy unless we trust and obey.  One basic principle - so easy.  And look at the words in the song - so simple.

So why is trust so hard for me?  And obedience even harder at times?  I love God.  I love Jesus.  I want to be just like them.  I want everything God has to offer a sinner like me.  His love, patience, guidance, goodness, blessings.  So all I have to do is let go, and let God have it all.  I DO trust and obey, I DO trust and obey, I DO trust and obey...  God help me in this moment.

Trust and Obey

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
